Useful notes for Year 10 self introductions:
Recordings are due on Monday, November 28th
Spoken Presentation Task:
This assessment activity requires you to give a presentation in culturally appropriate spoken Japanese, expressing personal information, idea and opinions.
Your spoken presentation should be a minimum of 30 seconds in length. Quality is more important than quantity. You will record your presentaton for assessment and moderation purposes.
The assessment will consist of you recording a spoken presentation of about 30 seconds In this assessment, consider that your audience will be your teacher and prospective host family students in Japan. You may choose to record you presentation as a vlog. If you choose a vlog, it must be a video and not just audio.
You may work in pairs or in groups for your initial preparation and brainstorming. But you will give your presentation individually, and will be assessed individually. All of the preparation for your presentation must be your own work. If you include extracts from external sources, you must acknowledge those sources. Any extracts will not contribute towards your final grade. You may not use language from the language samples unless it has been significantly reworked.
Before the assessment, discuss the requirements of the Standard with your teacher, including what you need to show in your spoken presentation.
You should write your spoken presentation as soon as possible so you can then practise it each day in the lead up to the day you’re giving your spoken presentation, so you can work on your pronunciation and intonation. You are likely to be more confident if you are familiar and comfortable with what you have to say.
You can choose from either:
ØA self-introduction, including your personal details, hobbies, interests, and hopes, and your wishes for your time in Japan.
or
ØAn explanation (for Japanese school students) about what you do in your free time or on the weekend (You could use refer to what you did yesterday/last weekend or plan to do next weekend as examples).
Your spoken presentation should show you can: -communicate personal information, and/or ideas and/or opinion(s) in culturally appropriate Japanese that are relevant to the task -communicate beyond the immediate context e.g. present, past and/or future. (NCEA L1) -develop information, and/or ideas and/or opinion(s) in a controlled and integrated way -capably and successfully select and use a range of language features that are fit for purpose and audience -use language without including inconsistencies that interfere with communication
Conditions of assessment
The assessment task will be completed in negotiation with your teacher.
You will store your recorded work in a suitable manner, and you will discuss with your teacher how you will save your spoken presentation. For example, it could be kept in a student managed digital portfolio tool such as OneNote, or on a USB drive
It needs to be kept until quality assurance processes are completed.
Your spoken presentation should be recorded and should be a minimum of 30 seconds. If you choose to send it in as a vlog, it must be a video recording.
All work must be your own. Extracts from external sources should not be included without acknowledging the sources. Any extracts from external sources will not be considered in the final achievement judgement.
Language from the language samples may not be used unless it is significantly reworked.
You may use prepared notes/cue cards/props/photos/and or other supporting material but you must not read directly from your notes. If you read directly from your notes, you will not meet the Standard.
In order to achieve the standard for NCEA Level 1, you would need to use a range of language up to and including Curriculum Level 6 language features and speak for about 1 minute. For example: い adjective と おもいます。 I think that…. <Reason> から、 <reason> so…../Because <reason> 〜たり、たり します。 I do things like… verb-stem+ながら、 while I …. verb-stem+すぎます I ….too much verb (plain dictionary form)+つもり です。 I intend to… verb (plain dictionary form)+こと が すき です。 I like … ing verb (plain dictionary form)+こと が できます。 I can … 〜て は いけません。 I/You mustn’t …. 〜て も いい です。 It’s ok to … 〜て から、 After … 〜て、 …. and… あまり +the negative I don’t really …./It’s not very …. ぜんぜん + the negative I never …
